Why Choose The Winged Dragon

We offer a variety of different programs for Melbourne Primary and Secondary Schools, We run specific classes for male and female as well as combined classes for both which cater for all age and fitness levels. We are also able to tailor programs to suit specific needs and requirements.

We’ve listed the main school areas that we currently have on offer. If you have any specific requests, we would love to discuss additional classes.

Karate

Students are introduced and taken through the process of a normal Karate class. During our six lesson program the class will be taught basic striking, blocking and kicking techniques. They will also be taught a set pattern which consists of street wise self defence applications.

Each class is designed to further increase the students discipline, respect and focus of mind. We achieve this by setting tasks that increase in performance level. Tasks such as breaking boards, blocking against the bamboo stick and several games.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a high-energy striking sport that combines punches, kicks, knees, and footwork. It builds power, speed, and timing while improving overall fitness and coordination.

Whether you’re training for competition or just looking to stay in shape, kickboxing sharpens your reflexes, boosts confidence, and teaches effective stand-up striking skills.

Ground Self-Defence (MMA)

Ground Self-Defence in MMA is all about staying safe and getting out of trouble when you’re on the mat. It focuses on holding strong positions, using your hips and arms to create space, and turning the tables with sweeps or submissions.

Solid ground defence helps you avoid copping damage and gives you the chance to escape or take control of the fight.

Women’s Self Defence

This course will not only teach the physical techniques needed to dispatch an attacker but we also cover different scenarios and how to deal with them. Helpful ideas for home and street protection and discussions on safer living combined with exercises in assertive behaviour and body language make this course one that will improve the students’ confidence and awareness.

Our course is now being run in conjunction with the Victorian Police and will also cover the legal aspects in Self Defence.

The techniques taught are designed to be quick and effective and aim to strike to 4 major attack points that will stop any attacker regardless of their size. Repeated practice against heavy duty shields allow the students to test their form.

Men’s Self Defence

Unlike womens classes, limited striking techniques are shown. We believe that to often men use their fists to settle disputes and thus we have geared our program to focus more on avoiding, restraining and controlling your opponent.

Discussion on legal and moral aspects are covered and similar to the Female course, body language and assertive techniques are taught.

Ground work plays a large role in the men’s program with correct falling and rolling skills taught.

Several real wrestling locks are covered along with extremely effective restraining moves.

We also offer mixed (male/female) self defence classes

Boxercise

Boxercise is a safe, effective and fun form of exercise that is suitable for all ages and levels of ability. Students learn a range of professional boxing drills to popular music tracks.

This is a low impact but high intensity class that has been designed to minimise stress, burn calories and tone your body, all in a fun and friendly environment.
